PROGRAM & SERVICES
Since 2010, Family Promise Chicago North Shore has helped families stay stable and housed, find affordable housing, secure employment, learn budgeting skills, and understand community resources to address their challenges.
Unlike other shelter organizations in the area, we offer more comprehensive and tailored services to match the needs of each family. While chronic homelessness is frequently intractable, we have found that in many cases, the working poor just need some specialized, short-term support to turn their lives around.

Homelessness Prevention Program
School districts and other homeless agencies refer families who face losing their homes to counseling and referrals to fit their needs. FP can help them stay in their homes. Case management services are provided to help the family stabilize and keep their children in their same schools and the family in their community. Families living in suburban Cook County that may be facing eviction due to past-due rent or past-due utilities are encouraged to apply for assistance.

Diversion Program
FP guides families before they become homeless. Keeping families out of shelter is good public policy and good fiscal policy. When families have lost housing and reach out to Family Promise, we provide services to help them find another housing solution, including landlord mediation, alternative housing solutions and leveraging a family's support systems. We serve doubled-up families through our Diversion program.

Community Outreach & Post Shelter Support Services
Guidance and resources to keep our families stable, including housing referrals, jobs, education (vocational, GED, certifications), childcare, clothing, school supplies, and many other items. We also offer a Household Supply Pantry where families can pick up laundry detergent, dish detergent, toilet paper, and other supplies that cannot be purchased with their SNAP Food Stamp Cards. We offer several community-based workshops in the areas of financial literacy, good tenancy, and life skills.

Shelter Program
Our rotational shelter program provides temporary housing to families with children who are experiencing homelessness and enables them to stay together as they work to regain independence. We utilize existing community resources, provide stable shelter in private rooms, meals, intensive case management, and comprehensive individualized support services.
